In the Morland Dynasty series, the majestic sweep of English history is richly and movingly portrayed through the fictional lives of the Morland family. It is 1705, and the shadow of Napoleon is falling across Europe, and a restlessness seems to be changing mores and loosening society’s restraints. At Morland Place, James’ marriage to Mary Ann is falling apart; Lucy’s to Chetwyn is in the balance as she embarks on a blatant affair with a sea officer; and William supports a mistress he cannot marry. Mary goes to sea with her husband Captain Haworth and is caught up in the battle of the Nile; and as war becomes inevitable, Lucy knows she must say goodbye to her love as every fighting captain waits eagerly for his commission.

like it.

I've read all the Morland books and while some drag a little, usually the characters grab me and I want to know what happens to them - who they came from and where they are going. I find the writing clear, readable and very, very historically developed. There is no easier way to wend your way through the history of England and to some degree USA and France. I once wrote to the author to suggest she go back and "fill in" some of the huge gaps in the earlier years and I dread the books ending as they surely must as we approach modern times. I guess you could call me a Morland addict. And I'm happy to have addicted my daughter and best friend. Just relax and enjoy!

Good Reading, as usual, Good buy.......

In 1795, Napoleon Bonaparte is making his presence felt all across Europe and this is affecting all the members of the Morland family. James has reluctantly agreed to an arranged marriage with the daughter of a wealthy businessman, feeling that, since he and Heloise are unable to marry, he may as well do his duty by the family and provide an heir to inherit the Morland property. This is book 11 in the series and is just as fascinating as the others. It's a very easy way to absorb history and I've learned more about English and American history from this series of books than from any text book. Now onwards to number 12.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good and interesting historical story line
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 15, 2022
I have loved all the books up to now and would give 5* if it wasn't for the poor proof reading. The mistakes distract from excellent story lines and I learn new or forgotten information and want to read on and on. With correct spelling this novel would be first rate.

I have read some of this series before and am revisiting them after about 20 years. So far I have been listeneing to them rather than reading them then i decided to do both fit this one. I am so glad I did for I had forgotten what an enjoyable read the are.
