Readers today are eager for accurate information about Islam in the midst of a fog of political correctness. In nine short chapters, respected Point of View radio host J. Kerby Anderson draws on years of research and experience to clear up misconceptions, address concerns, and provide a biblical perspective on the world's second largest religion. He answers questions about the basic beliefs and structures of Islam and offers guidance about the Christian response:

  • What are the five pillars of Islam?
  • What are the main teachings of the Qur'an?
  • Does the Qur'an promote suicide bombers and martyrdom?
  • How do Muslims view the Christian world?
  • What is the extent of the threat from radical Islam?

Readers will discover a fuller picture of the Muslim faith and the role of Islam in the world, as well as helpful advice for reasoning with Muslims from the Qur'an and the Bible about Jesus.

I like the way Kerby does the table of contents. It is according to the issues concerning Islam. It starts with a brief history of Mohammed. If someone doesn't have a lot of time to read a long book on Islam, this is a good book to read.

Islam (A Biblical Point of View On)

If you or the people in your church have hit snooze since 9/11, let A Biblical Point of View on Islam serve as your next wake-up call. More than one billion Muslims live in the world; six million Muslims live in the United States. While the world's second largest religion continues to grow, unequipped Christians continue to sleep.

By guiding the reader through the origin and theology of Islam, its rise to the forefront of society, and its epic clashes with the western world, this book prepares the reader to dialogue intelligently with Muslims they encounter.

In A Biblical Point of View on Islam, radio host Kirby Anderson provides a grand slam breakfast by answering questions that often get raised regarding the Islamic faith. His answers to these questions guide the hungry reader through the background and philosophy of the religion of Islam. He arranges the questions in a logical, easy-to-understand manner throughout the nine chapters. Kirby's buffet of questions caters to the reader who wants an answer to everything and to reader who has one or two specific questions in mind. The reader comes away from the book understanding the uniqueness of Christianity and the implications that Islam presents to the task of missions.

The relevance of this topic should sound an alarm since Christians consistently encounter Muslims at school, work, at the playground, and traveling. Based on observations of growth from the last decade, the beliefs of Islam will continue to stream through the media. For the sake of being politically correct, media outlets fail to present an accurate portrayal of Islam.

Do the people in your church still hit the snooze button? Throw some cold water on them and consider using Kerby Anderson's book as the next textbook for your small group or equipping course at church. Challenge your group to interact with the local Islamic community. This book will serve your group well to aid and initiate your discussion.

This book provides, not only an in depth analysis of the life of Mohammad and the beliefs of Islam, but also a look at the Crusades. It is well researched, easy to follow, and very informative. This is a great book for any Christian wanting to know how to more about the Islamic faith and how to share their faith with a Muslim.

I love this book. It gives a basic, concise and detailed information on the history, structure, theology of Islam. A chapter is devoted to what the Christian response to Islam. It clears up a lot of confusion between the differences between Islam and Christianity. It anwsers the question "Are Allah and God of Abraham the same God?" It shows the differences of the Qur'an and the Bible. It explains how Islam views Abraham, Moses and Jesus. The church at large is extremely uneducated in the subject. I have never heard one teahing on the Islamic religion. I highly recommned this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars shorter but better than I expected

I think that this book is written by a Christian fundamentalist/evangelical and was interested in what he had to say about Islam. I found this book to be a concise, and to the extent of my knowledge, an accurate survey of Islam which did not shy away from controversial issues, much more forthcoming than some of the Islamic literature which I have received from Muslims. The author is to be commended for not trying to paper over serious problems in our society regarding Islam. I would take issue with him on the idea that America has always been a place of religious freedom since many of the early state constitutions severly limited the civil rights of Jews, Catholics, Muslims, atheists, and agnostics, and I would further argue that the clear separation of church and state is a phenomenon of the twentieth century onward which is still being worked out in the law courts to some extent as the current furror over the burning of Korans and the attempted appeasing of indignant Muslims interests by Western governments attests. I suspect that his missionizing tone at points will put off some readers. However, he does raise important issues that I think agnostics and atheists would do well to think through and wrestle with so as to be able to offer constructive suggestions for dealing with the concerns of religious people in a pluralistic society. This is by no means a book on how to read the Qur'an, "The Science of Qur'anic interpretation", for which the reader should look elsewhere since this book is written for the "Christian faithful" and fails to inform its audience how Muslims and Christian/Jews approach their texts differently.
