They are the lone wolves of the battlefield. Tracking the enemy, lying in wait for the target to appear—then they shoot to kill. Armed with an unerring eye, infinite patience and a mastery of camouflage, combat snipers stalk the enemy with only one goal...

In World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Beirut, American snipers honed the art of delivering a single deadly shot from nowhere—and devastating enemy morale. They met the enemy on his own turf, picking off officers, unwary soldiers, and even other snipers from extraordinary distances of up to 1 ½ miles. Now, these uncommon men tell their stories: of the emotions felt when a man's face came into their crosshairs and they pulled the trigger, of the nerve-wracking hours and days of waiting, motionless, for the enemy, of the primal savagery of a sniper duel.

Often trained haphazardly in wartime, and forgotten in times of peace, combat snipers were officially recognized after the Vietnam War, when the Marine Corps became the first military branch to start a full-time sniper school.
One Shot-One Kill is their powerful record of desperate trials and proud victories.

Cats are the ultimate hunters. Furry yet silent death machines, slinking through darkness and time and pouncing and arriving to execute, seal the deal, deliver the kill, and to carry out the orders of the Angel of Death. And then they take a nap. Sleep all day, hunt stalk and kill all night. They love it, and they don't know what else to do with their time. There is written in this epic collection a passage including White Feather, Carlos Hathcock. He and his spotter slithered down into a nice little spot overlooking some rice paddies and a large killing zone. They took cat naps and chilled out for a while...but then a large clumsy battalion of naive troops started stumbling through their line of sight. The trained snipers picked up their rifles as the clueless troops stomped across the open field. Like cats grasping at lizards and laser dots, the snipers tuned into the game....

This is both a history and a personal narrative, with a imphasis on the Vietnam Era. It is very well written.

The book was a good read, covering the beginnings of snipers up to modern day deployment and useage.

The content of the book could have been organized and presented in a better format, as it jumps around from sniper thoery to actual accounts from snipers. The information serves as a good historical account of the theories and development of sniper tactics, but lacks much content on the modern-day version of the sniper in the modern military.

If you want to read about different sniper accounts from wars such as WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Beirut
this book is for you. This is an excellent book which describes a snipers mission in detail. If you are a former
military man you'll be able to put yourself in the snipers position. You will be right there experienceing
what the sniper is doing. They were all proud to serve their country and give their life if necessary
so we can enjoy the freedomn we have today. Semper Fidelis!

Read the sample which starts with Carlos Hatchcock in Vietnam and had to buy it. This is a collection of short stories from snipers during WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Beirut. It's not for the faint of heart. There's stuff here that will stick with you for days but you get to see into the mind of a sniper.

Great stories of some great snipers that covered all the years of war. Vietnam was especially interesting, when there were really no rules of engagement. All in all, a good read!

This book was recommended to me by a marksman. It is a brief account of snipers during combat, their training, the ethics by which they follow and the patience needed fot their task. Most people cannot imagine what they had to endure and the danger they placed themselves in. True stories of real life experiences.
