I cannot review the product at this time ... I ordered it on Aug. 12 and I have yet to receive it. It was expected between Aug 19 and September 6 and I am still waiting! Be aware when you ordered items through International Books that it will take over a month to get them! College classes started on September 6 and I am without the required textbook ....

Far and away one of the best social work/counseling texts I've read. Cover to cover. James somewhat neglects the role of spirituality in counseling dynamics, but this is true of most such texts, unfortunately. Overall, however, this is an excellent (and highly readable) text.  Crisis Intervention Strategies, 6th Edition

I enjoyed this textbook because it gave examples of conversations between a crisis worker and an individual in crisis. The information in the book was informative, had many references to state, federal, and national organizations, and related to real-life situations. I do wish the actual interventions were easier to find in the book. Like, "here's the 6-step intervention and these are the steps". I think the 6-step intervention was actually the one intervention that was spelled out like that. The others were kind of mixed in with the chapter and had to be piecemealed together.

I was pleasantly surprised and pleased that this textbook came to me so quickly. It was the correct book, even though it advertised that it came with Info Trac, which was not attached. But it's okay because I really just needed the book pronto and that's how I got it!

Thanks again,
M. Hogan

As required for licensure, I used this text for the mandated Crisis Intervention post-master's course. In addition to basic mental health crisis intervention, the book primarily focuses on crisis response, crisis planning, and other concepts introduced to the general public by FEMA and HRSA after the events of 9/11.

I suppose if you are not familiar with the planning component, and do not want to take the time to search through the free FEMA and Red Cross files on the net, you'll have a brief, one-stop shopping experience with this text. And, I also suppose this is "stuff" one should probably know for administrator level position within human service organizations. However, be warned...this is great theory that academics want you to know. But in the real world, the plan in written and put on a shelf.

This book was great for my crisis intervention class in marriage and family therapy grad school. It is easy to read, goes in-depth about crisis intervention strategies and I have even used it after graduating as a reference.

Took this for continuing education while working with EAP's. Good information and suggestions on things that help and are not helpful to the client or staff. Crisis intervention has strategies etc. and is a specialty in its own way. This is the best I have seen so far.

Bought this book for a class I took on campus and did not want to pay the extreme price on campus. Found it on here for a 1/3 of the cost and it was the extact same book it was perfect. Great ship time and wonderful customer service.
