最も有名な保護、脱保護のバイブル。第3版（旧版）では、第2版から大幅なページアップと記載の丁寧さで使いやすくなった。今回の第4版では、レファレンスが最近のものまで入り強化されている面はよい。一方、著者が変わったことで、マーチ有機化学と同様に、使いにくさも出てきている。旧版に比べ、構造式がかなり少なくなってしまっていて、パッと必要なものを見つけにくくなってしまった。文字が多くなった分、じっくり見ないと必要な面が見えてこない。ページ数の制約からか、かなり詰め込んでいる感がある。次の版では、Greenのよさ、雛形を維持しつつ、レファレンスは新しくしてもらいたい。
