Soon Clay realises that he isn't going to get any peace and quiet after all. He encounters inhumane treatment of the locals by the landed gentry. When he meets Joanna, who is against the establishment, particularly her uncle, Clay is smitten. He joins in the cause to fight the injustices heaped upon the villagers.
This would make a good TV movie. Plenty of action, clear-cut characters, and a nod to history. It's the kind of material for a film Mel Gibson might have made in his English-bashing days. The English-bashing in this case seems quite justified. An interesting fast read.
to hunt for awhile to find it. Great author,
