I tend to use the NIV due to its good and accurate translation overall, and I like The Message paraphrase because it is written by a working pastor for the everyday person who does not talk like someone writing a dissertation or government regulation. Up to now, if I saw a passage in the NIV and wanted to see Eugene Peterson's translation of that passage in The Message, I had to look that up in The Message Bible which took a lot of time that made the task less than efficient. Not any more. With this Bible, you can look at either the NIV or The Message verse or passage, and then look in the other column to see how the other version reads. Often I look at the NIV column to get the faithful and accurate but not always simple translation, and then at The Message translation to see how the verse or passage might likely read in today's conversational wording.

And for everyday Bible reading where you are reading for enjoyment and enlightenment, it is hard to beat The Message for its contemporary and "street-wise" use of the English language, even if it is not a word-for-word translation of the ancient languages. It is almost as if you are reading the NIV for its accurate and faithful translation of the ancient texts, and are using The Message column to act as a kind of commentary or contemporary view of each passage.

Each Bible translation has its own merits and qualities, as well as drawbacks. Having both translations right there on the same page defintely makes understanding the concept or thought being expressed on each page much easier and more enjoyable than either translation alone. It truly is like two Bibles in one.

The layout of the pages and format is clean and crisp, the typefaces are easy to read (though typically sized for a work of this magnitude), and the parallel aspect of the verses is excellent. For me personally, this Bible is a winner, and will be among the first I consult when looking up a verse or just reading God's Word for enjoyment and inspiration. Folks who are fans of both the NIV and The Message versions will find this book essential and exciting, as well as a huge time and frustration saver!

This bible is awesome, it has the 1984 version of the NIV (before the controversial revision) and the Message. It is a great devotional Bible because you can compare the side-by-side NIV text with the Message text.

The NIV is probably a more familiar rendering of the text to most people and aside from the KJV, probably most traditional. The Message is a newer paraphrase that does not read like what people would expect the Bible to read at all - its very modern and simple. This is great to help explain confusing passages.

I recommend this very strongly. I have purchased this book as gifts and will continue to recommend it anytime someone asks me about which Bible they should buy!

Great price, large print is larger than the regular version but not really large in my opinion, more like regular 12-14 don't, regular version is more like 10 don't tho so it is bigger. Super heavy tho so be prepared if you're planning on carrying it around.

Written in two separate parallel columns, this Bible is great for learning and understanding scripture. The NIV column is one of the most accurate translations into English at an understandable grade level. Many times, even that translation can be enhanced to let the reader understand the essence of what is being said by the parallel column provided by "The Message". The Message is a translation in the most up-to-date plain English you will find. I tend to rely on the NIV, and when needed, re-read the parallel translation of The Message to clarify the Word of God.

The Bible is modestly attractive, bound nicely and will last for a long time. This Bible is a great gift item for those starting out into the wonderful and awesome word of God.

I was happy to see that I could have the NIV and Message side by side. As these two are my favorites!! We often read from both, so this bible makes it much easier. This is a large hard cover bible and not easy to carry around, as to church, unless you put it in a book bag. What you don't get is reference, concordance, maps. In other words, this is not a study bible. It is advertised as LARGE PRINT, but the font size is the same as regular print. So if you were expecting really large print, will need your bifocals for this one. We in U.S.A. are so blessed to have so many translations and so easy to buy, So I'm sorry if I complain a little. The written Word is God and His message to us. We need to read, study and apply!! How thankful I am that there are translations easy to understand,

This Bible has lived up to its billing. It is not too large (although a little thicker than I was anticipating - but I'd been using a slim-line version which makes every other BIble look huge) and has a soft, flexible leather binding. The translations are side-by-side so that you really can read a verse in one translation and immediately look at the same verse in the other translation without difficulty. The font is not so small you have trouble reading it, but is not so large that the Bible has to be five inches thick to contain it all. When you add the fact that this Bible is pretty - the colors look rich, the pages are edged in gold and there is a navy blue ribbon bookmark built in - I don't think you could ask for more!

I purchased 2 of these Bibles, and gave one each, to my son and grandson for Christmas. The price was so much better than the prices at the Christian bookstores. Now I want one for me. The leather binding is very good quality. Having both translations right there on the same page helps to make it easier to understand, and more enjoyable than either translation alone. It really is two Bibles in one. An excellent way to read the bible, as the message is a good translation.
No complaints at all. My son suggested the print could be just a bit larger. My grandson would like to see the words that Jesus spoke, in red letters, on the NIV pages.
Amazon and the companies they represent have the fastest shipping, and the best prices.

I used to have 2 Bibles side by side when I have my quiet time to read and study. With this Bible I have both in one and it makes finding the scriptures so much easier and quicker! I am so pleased that I purchased this edition, and the size of the font and the way it is laid out is very easy to follow. I highly recommend this Bible!

This was a gift for our daughter. In studying she wanted a message to compare verses with NIV. This does it for you. Brilliant Bible.
It's a good size to handle. Clear text, well set out. It looks like a useful tool that will reveal its worth and blessing more with use and as time goes by.
I would recommend this to everyone whether studying deeply or looking up favourite verses.

Its an amazing product. I am glad I bought it, because it is so easy to read and you have the NIV translation side by side to understand and compare the contents for deeper understanding of the Word of God. Its especially very good for the younger people to read it both in understandable simple English and then understand the message in the light of both interpretations.

The NIV and the Message texts are side by side and very easy to follow. One of the problems I have had with the Message in the past, has been trying to work out the verses in relation to NIV. This is a great way to compare and obtain a better understanding of the food of life.
