Review

...this is my first semester using this text and I have been pleasantly surprised at the students' ability to read and understand the material as compared to students with similar skills using a different textbook last year. Exam scores are up and I promise you it is not because students suddenly started studying more! ....I really love this text. It is quite different from anything else I've seen, and I've looked at most of the sexuality texts out there.

Callista Lee, Fullerton College

I find Roger Hock's textbook to be the most up-to-date, the most thoroughly researched and visually pleasing of all the Human Sexuality textbooks.

About the Author

Roger Hock has been teaching psychology for over 20 years and human sexuality for over 15 years. Human sexuality is his favorite class to teach and is consistently one of the most popular among students. He believes that Human Sexuality is an essential course for college students because the topics covered are fundamental to our lives and our identities as humans. He has been known to “declare” that, if he had the power to do so, he would make the human sexuality course a requirement for all undergraduate college and university students. Why? Because the material in this course touches everyone, in countless ways, throughout their lives. But, more importantly, most students, upon entering college as adults, are lacking a correct and current understanding of at least some, if not many, key issues that comprise the complexities of humans as sexual beings. Sex education in grades K-12 is frequently incomplete, inadequate, and even misleading, and not all parents are willing or able to impart the necessary and correct information to their children. Students in higher education clearly need and deserve the knowledge they acquire in this class.

Roger R. Hock, PhD, is a professor of psychology and human sexuality at Mendocino College in northern California. He received his MA in Psychology from San Diego State University and his PhD in Psychology from the University of California at San Diego. He is also the author of Forty Studies that Changed Psychology: Explorations into the History of Psychological Research (Pearson, 2012) and coauthor (with Meg Kennedy Dugan) of It’s My Life Now: Starting over after an Abusive Relationship or Domestic Violence (Routledge, 2006), and (with Amy Marin) Psychology, a digital introductory psychology textbook from Pearson Education.

Dr. Hock has been teaching psychology and human sexuality for over twenty-five years. Human Sexuality is his favorite class to teach and is consistently one of the most popular among students. He believes that Human Sexuality is an essential course for college students because the topics covered are fundamental to our lives and our identities as humans. He asserts that the Human Sexuality course should be a requirement for all undergraduate college and university students. Why? Because the material in this course touches everyone, in countless ways, throughout their lives. But, more importantly, students, upon entering college as adults, often lack a complete and current understanding of at least some, if not many, key issues that combine to create the complexities of humans as sexual beings. Sex education in grades K—12 tends to be incomplete, inadequate, sometimes misleading, and too often, nonexistent. Moreover, not all parents are willing or able to impart the necessary and correct information to their children. Students in higher education clearly need and deserve the knowledge they acquire in this class.

I use this for my Human Sexuality class at OSU, with Dr. Cravens-Brown, highly recommend her class. The book has several relevant pictures, includes non-hetero normative pictures, topics and language and has very accessible language. Buy it and sell it back when you're done, that's what I'm doing. Good textbook.

It's a book to have to be able to deepen the overall sexual culture. It breaks the myths and taboos inherited through family education and religious teaching. I keep learning about sex. Book delivered on time, and as advertised.

this is another book that I bought through amazon and thought I was getting value. I was wrong again. this book comes with no access code for the mypsychkit.com. this is an inportant resourse and comes with the text bought at the college bookstore for not much more money. maybe this is not an issue with the text itself but with amazon.

I was expecting a small amount of wear on the book, as described, but when I received it the bottom part of the book had water/coffee stains (and the package did not appear wet). Still a good value. Paid for, shipped and received in less then a week.

Very informative book and down to earth about this particular subject. The condition of the book wasn't so great but it was useable.

Its the same as the 3rd Edition and is very informative. So glad that my teacher required this book, and I will most likely keep it. instead of selling it back.

It was a bit beat up, more than I expected, the edges of the book were bent . I was expecting a brand new book . Besides that it was fine .
