This book is an absolute slog to get through. There are far better books to use as an introduction to music education. The authors don't bother to define their important terms, they use run-on sentences constantly - basically, don't read it unless you have to for class. The only reason I'm giving it 4/5 stars is because the book was in fine condition, and it's not the /seller's/ fault that the book was written by academics who care more about sounding smart than speaking clearly.

A must have for graduate students of music education. Current research -- well-written by experts in the field.

We used this as one of our texts in my last pedagogy class, and the book is well-organized and relevant. It is speaking mostly of classroom settings, and my primary experience in teaching comes from one-on-one music lessons. But many of the ideas apply no matter the setting. For those educators looking for a refreshing look at the topic of classroom pedagogy, the book provides easily readable sources on a range of topics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good

As a PhD student, I found that this book offered a very good overview of the research in the field of music education. The only thing is the chapter 11 on music education technology: it is already a bit outdated (MySpace is not very used anymore, and Facebook is not mentioned, which is really important in the lives of students). Despite this small issue, I strongly recommend this book!
