From the bestselling author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The BFG

Mr. and Mrs. Twit are the smelliest, nastiest, ugliest people in the world. They hate everything—except playing mean jokes on each other, catching innocent birds to put in their Bird Pies, and making their caged monkeys, the Muggle-Wumps, stand on their heads all day. But the Muggle-Wumps have had enough. They don't just want out, they want revenge.

Matilda Wormwood is only five years old, but she is a genius. Unfortunately, her parents are too stupid to even notice. Worse, her horrible headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, is a bully who makes life difficult—especially for Matilda's teacher, Miss Honey, and her friends. However, what Miss Trunchbull doesn't know is that Matilda is an incredibly clever child and has a trick or two up her sleeve...

Nobody has seen Willy Wonka—or the inside of his amazing chocolate factory—in years. When Wonka announces his plans to invite the winners of five Golden Tickets to visit his factory, the whole world is after those tickets! Little Charlie Bucket longs to find a Golden Ticket and get the chance to visit the mysterious factory and well, he has just as much chance as anyone else, doesn’t he?

James Henry Trotter lives with his two horrid aunts, Spiker and Sponge, who never let him have fun or play with other children. He hasn't got a single friend in the whole wide world. That is, not until he meets the Old Green Grasshopper and the rest of the insects aboard a giant, magical peach!

The Big Friendly Giant, BFG, is unlike other giants. For a start, he’d rather eat repulsant snozzcumbers than chomp on innocent children—lucky for little Sophie, he is far too nice and jumbly. It's not long before the BFG becomes Sophie's very best friend, and the pair are hatching a clever plan to deal with the cruel and nasty giants—with a very exceptional ally.

About the Author

Roald Dahl (1916-1990) was born in Wales of Norwegian parents. He spent his childhood in England and, at age eighteen, went to work for the Shell Oil Company in Africa. When World War II broke out, he joined the Royal Air Force and became a fighter pilot. At the age of twenty-six he moved to Washington, D.C., and it was there he began to write. His first short story, which recounted his adventures in the war, was bought by The Saturday Evening Post, and so began a long and illustrious career.

After establishing himself as a writer for adults, Roald Dahl began writing children’s stories in 1960 while living in England with his family. His first stories were written as entertainment for his own children, to whom many of his books are dedicated.

Roald Dahl is now considered one of the most beloved storytellers of our time. Although he passed away in 1990, his popularity continues to increase as his fantastic novels, including James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The BFG, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, delight an ever-growing legion of fans.

Read this to my 7 year old twins and they loved it. Roald Dahl is a great author and I love reading his books to my kids.

A fun introduction to dark humour for kids. While it sets an example of everything a relationship should NOT be, I have to admit it was sort of funny to observe the bodily humour and laugh at the two very disturbed anti-heroes. If I were to have a child read this, I would probably insist on doing it With them as opposed to having it read it alone without a few comments here and there about how this is no way to behave in real life. That way, its mischief might be mitigated by a little reality...not to spoil the fun, of course, but just in case the child is too young to recognize sarcasm--and it makes a GREAT read-aloud. Anyhow, it's fun, crude, and silly like much of Dahl's work.

In The Twits we see the daily lives of the two most horrible, dirty, ugly, and mean people in town. They are a married couple who do anything and everything to hurt and annoy one another, and when not bothering one another, torture a family of monkeys by training them to be a circus act. Their favorite food is bird pie, which they make by catching birds in trees by using paste on the branches. PLOT SPOILER: The monkeys turn the tables and defeat their owners who, by being pasted to the floor upside-down, collapse into themselves until they disappear forever.

A fun story with a few laughs with a very typical Dahl style. I remember our teacher reading it to us when I was in elementary school. I was happy to pass this story onto a new generation.

When I was in year two, this book was read out to the class by the teacher on Fridays and I really liked the sound of the book and when I saw it on kindle I thought "I must buy it" and I did. I agree with the person or people who say "It's not one of Roald Dahl's best" because I don't think it is, but it's funny and would appeal most to eight-year-old boys. I would give this book 3.5 stars out of five and a 6.5/7 out of ten. I feel that Roald Dahl should have had Mr and Mrs Twit play a few more tricks on each other

Next to The Witches and BFG, The Twits is my favorite Roald Dahl story, the theme of which is ... people tend to get what they deserve. The Twits are a nasty husband and wife team who like to make life miserable for everyone and everything they come in contact with. The story is smart and funny and the illustrations, while simplistic, help to bring the story to life. This is a great book for young readers and parents who read to their kids before bedtime. The chapters are very short and while doesn't have as much of the unique wordplay as is often found in other Dahl classics, it's still a fun and funny book.

I was trying to steer my 8 year old daughter away from Dork Diaries and the like. She normally is bored with books if the first chapter isn't filled with drama to pull her in. She has started a lot of books but only finished a few. I wanted her to see that she can find a book that would keep her attention without the preteen drama queen theme. She read this one "cover" to "cover" on her Kindle.loved this book because it was very silly and descriptive. The words flowed together to paint a picture in her mind, unlike some books where the wording gets in the way of the story. She said that Roald Dahl is now one of her favorite authors, and she would like to read other books by him.

I was surprised that the print (lettering) is so pale. But that is the way Mom remembers it, so it is fine. I just find it difficult to read. So does she, but she has the story practically memorized. She read it to the second grade in her school library for nearly 20 years. Now that she is 88 years old she likes to read it or have me read it to her.

This one is a little bit on the short end (even for a children's book, but it's great fun for the family.
Highly recommended if you can get the not censored version (not that it has much to sensor anyway, but still).
