I am a student in the Master's program in counseling and I bought this book for a special needs class. The teacher made the class read the entire book, which was a great idea because I learned so much about families with children of special needs. The book provides short case scenarios of families who have experienced challenges with their special needs child and how it was resolved. This book is great for any professional who is planning on working with families with children of special needs. Teachers, Social workers, counselors, medical professionals and other professionals should read this book! Best of all this book teaches professionals about rights, laws and policies that protect special needs children and their families, which is important if planning on working in school setting, hospital or community based organization.

Children with mental and physical challenges must be treated with intelligence and sensitivity. This text lays out all of the techniques that those of us who work with these students must know. The text is written with compassion and great detail.

The pages of this book look like they are photo copied. The images are terrible and blurry and light. Overall quality is terrible; I bought this book a little over a month ago and the spine has fallen apart and half of the pages fell out! Absolutely awful!!!! I purchased the book for my first class of a master's program and I'm supposed to keep it throughout the program... it didn't even last through a six week class!!!!

I bought this book for a graduate-level college class and kept it as a reference tool. Anyone going into the field of education, especially Special Education, whether as a teacher, paraprofessional, or other service provider, should read this book. With the transition to the Common Core and the resultant individuation of educational plans, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is increasingly prevalent even if you do not intend to go into Special Education. While much of this book is common sense, you will find some of the history, common practices, pitfalls, and problem solving to be valuable in your career.

I ordered this book, NEW, for an online course through a university. It arrived on time, but I am very disappointed in the condition of the textbook. The pages are photocopies, and the binding is breaking even though I am only in the second week of the course. I have checked with others who purchased this text, and I am not the only one with a photocopied version being sold as new.
