The two volume Harrison's hard cover is really a huge improvement over past editions. It now has color pictures, and is easier to read than older editions. It did come with two volumes. Each one has an index, so you can search either book, and go to the appropriate page number. The other version is just too big to carry around, and it is harder to hold the giant book. This book also has the DVD with more colored pics. You might want to confirm with seller if purchasing used if it comes with both volumes, since some people have had problems with that.

If you are a med student and want to save money, I've found that this set has become pretty much my exclusive resource for information for cell, micro, immuno, and path.

My "required" book list for cell and molec was
Schaechter's
Robbins
Emery's
Mark's
Basic & Clinical Pharm Lange

The books I use
Lippincott's illustrated review
Harrison's
BRS books
(Lange Pharm book is good, but you could do without)

Between Rohen's, Gray's, Harrison's, Lippincott's illustrated review of biochem, and Blumenfeld's Neuroanatomy; you can pretty much count on year one being covered. The money you save can be spent on BRS.

One of the best, if not the best, references for all things internal medicine. I use this text all the time and will be using it for many many years to come.

I purchased and I am reviewing the 17th Edition 2 volume set (2008). In my opinion, the price discount on this previous edition (over buying the latest edition 2012) was worth it because of the relatively small differences in updated content. You may wish to view both editions in a library before making this choice for yourself.

The content is exactly as I expected, and it is printed on quality paper. My only problem with this edition is that although readable and crisp, the size of the print is too small (and I have good eyes). Even with the small print, the work is 2754 pages without the TOC, preface, summaries, appendices or indices. The two volume set is welcome over the one volume version for ease of portability. Each volume weighs approximately 5 lbs. 7oz.

I have not yet reviewed the CD that comes with the book.

It's really amaizing. The quality as a book wich is increase ( in page quality , in colour illustration etc.)
The thing I appreciate most is the fact in wich you have the entire cycle of the medicine into and describe in a master form that I've finded only in "Harrison". The other things you make not is that the book consider you an idiot and in his end makes you a genius...a miracle isn't it.That's what we needs "miracles"...

This is a GREAT resource, not only for medical and nursing students, but for practicing physicians and allied health practitioners. Between Harrison's and Medscape, you should be able to find an answer to any medical question. The biggest tip I can give you is to buy the TWO (2) volume edition- it's much easier to carry or use than the massive single-volume edition.

Needless to introduce Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine to the group of professionals who need it the most: doctors. It is a must for medical students anywhere in the world. Graduated and Post-graduated physicians often have one edition at home. In terms of Internal Medicine, you can say it's the most complete textbook available.

every physician should have a copy. I don't think you really need to buy a new updated one every year. However, regardless of your speciality, it's always good to have it on hand. Subjects are presented with clarity and are complete. I prefer the 2 vol Set as it's easier to be handled and carried. Furthermore, this come with an electronic version which makes it even more enjoyable.
