This is a good reference book that probably has its most utility during 3rd and 4th year of medical school and into the 1st year of residency. It breaks down definitions as well as basic procedures which is helpful. Far too big to stick in your white coat, but can be brought along in your overnight bag or stuck in your locker for a quick browse.

I've recently moved from being an ER PA to a Hospitalist PA and I couldn't do my job everyday without this gem. As a PA I didn't get as much inpatient experience as my Physician counterparts so this thing has saved my butt numerous times as a quick reference for lab interpretations, documentation, fluid management, and everything else that I never had to think about when I was in the ER. As mentioned in another review, if you are not doing inpatient work then you should skip this book. I would never use it if I was doing FP work because many of the chapters would not apply. Lucky for me though, this thing is indispensable.

This is an excellent resource, so much so that after my dogs ate my first copy I immediately ordered my second. In my opinion it is well written, well organized, and the perfect size to carry around with you. As it says on the cover it is the manual of manuals. Easy to read charts, excellent pictures it covers a little bit of everything from bedside procedures to commonly used medications. I highly recommend to anyone in the medical field from paramedics on.

Awesome for rotations. If you arm yourself with this and the mass general book ( the green one), you'll be ready to take on the clinical phase for sure. This book compliments the mass general one perfectly, as scutt monkey talks of procedures, note writing formats, drugs etc, and mass general is sort of a pocket sized Harrison's manual of medicine. The other great thing scutt has is a list of most of the labs and it list differentials for high or low lab values, ie high Ca, then a list of things to consider that may cause elevated Ca levels. Only complaint is it is a little heavier then mass general but I still think well worth it.

This book is great as it provides all the knowledge you need about various tests, imaging, lab values, some pathophysiology, surgical techniques, and even the most commonly used medications in medicine. The paper edges have "squares" printed on them so you can quickly get to the chapter you are looking for. Between this and pocket medicine I don't think you would need much more on rotations!

I am currently in PA school and this book has been a lifesaver. It has quick info that is easy to find and is relevant. Multiple of my classmates have gone on to order the same book after flipping through mine. Highly recommend it!

I have used this book for years as a reference to carry with me. Ordered this newer edition as it is advertised as a 'pocket reference'. Maybe a very large pocket? It measures 4.5" by 8.5 ", so, not very handy to carry. Contents are excellent as usual just not the size I wanted.

This has to be the most useful book ever. I carry it around constantly and it answered more than one question. It's well organized and the information is accurate but short and easy to understand. It's perfect for a pocket guide. I was a fan of bates pocket for a long time but i'm currently loving this one.
