“A superb piece of storytelling―without doubt the most exciting and moving book this season.” (The New Yorker)
From the Back Cover
A Race Against Time
Little Willy's grandfather is sick, and it's up to Willy to save their farm from tax collectors. Their only hope is the prize money from the National Dogsled Race. But a lot of other people want to win the race, too, including Stone Fox, who has never lost a race in his life.
Do Willy and his dog Searchlight stand a chance against the toughest racers around? Can they win the race to save the farm -- and Grandfather -- before it's too late?

I have always loved to read. As a child, I would ask for book lists to read during the summer. I volunteered at the library in high school. Anything to get my hands on the words. Stone Fox was one of my favorites. I remember being so angry when one of my own kiddos spoiled the ending for her younger brother!
Pros: As an adult, this book seems very short. I remember reading it as a kid and it took me a while! I enjoy the pictures and the descriptions of the characters. As a child, I certainly didn’t understand Willy’s grandfather’s illness.
Cons: No cons. A beautiful little story that resonates with you long after you’re done! Bring tissues!
I’m glad the library had a square for “Re-read your favorite book from childhood”!
My seventh 5⭐️ of 2022.

It is a story about a little boy who lives with his grandfather on a farm. His grandfather is sick and has debts. The little boy decides to enter a dog race to win enough money to pay his grandfather’s debts. The little boy has to beat the best dog sled musher in the area. I’ll let you read to find out what happens.
