This book is supposed to be a contemporary romance. It is written like a Victorian romance. I had a difficult time believing either Laura or May were real people, as they acted more like plot devices. It took several chapters to describe one scene. This work was drawn out with so much descriptive text, it actually bored me. An example of dialog, "As he inhaled her tang, his shaft ached to plunder her." Seriously ?! The constant use of the word pleasure was ridiculous. His pleasure, her pleasure, etc and on and on, like the author was afraid to describe anatomy. I just finished a fantastic book called Friction by Sawyer Bennett and she managed to write a believable, contemporary romance that was smoking hot without being vulgar or derogatory. She kept it real and believable. I read this book using immersion reading while listening to the audiobook. The major saving grace of this was narrator Erica Bell. Her beautiful, smooth, creamy voice was incredible. If you are offended by more risqué language, than this book is for you. Join the heaving bosom crowd. Otherwise find something else.

This book had too many erotic passages for me. It was almost like the "love" scenes were written first and then a shallow story line was built around them. I enjoy reading erotic passages but they need to fit in to the story not BE the story. I plan on finishing the trilogy as this book alluded to the next. For those that like descriptive sex scenes, this book is for you.

Even after I got past the hero's name (Jay Cutler, also the name of the pouty quarterback from the Chicago Bears), I was at a loss as to why these two found each other attractive on an intellectual or emotional level. This is an example of failing the "show vs tell" mantra of good writing. The author just tells us that Jay is sexy and buff, but there is little in the way of making this guy 3 dimensional, i.e., why exactly he is so sexy and buff while toiling away in a lab or why he would fall for the heroine since all we are told is that he finds her arousing. Interesting premise, but the story gets carnal right away so that there is virtually no anticipation to the event.

Get out your fans! Whew! You'll need it while reading this one!

Brainy lab scientist Laura Manning has got a two big problems 1) she has to present the findings of her lastest project to the broard in a little over one week and 2) that would be easier if she didn't have sexier-than-sin Jay Cutler as her lab partner, all added to the fact that someone is out to get their secret files on the project by any means. So exactly how are they going to test their 'pleasure control' drug without anyone finding out their results before they present them to the board? -on themselves of course! Laura thinks that this is all in the name of science, but Jay has other ideas and after the 'experiments' are over, he's thinking of a more permanent relationship. But, "Wildman" Jay Cutler has really got his work cut out for him because Laura has a hard time believing it's her that he wants and not because he was under the influence of the pleasure drugs.

This is a really good debut. A very hot book. If your looking for lots of scorching hot love scenes in a contemporary then this one is for you. But my biggest gripe is the length, which is a little over 200 hundred pages with large type. I think the author could have added another 100 pages easily (perhaps it's the fault of the editors?). It was just over too fast for me and the overall scenes could have been more descriptive. I did enjoy it though and I'll definitely be getting the sequel. There's lots of room for improvement, but I think that Fox has a good start.

A very good short and heavy-on-the-love-scenes contemporary read.
