Arguing that man-made law and pre-Islamic customs and traditions, not Islamic teachings, are responsible for the promotion of misogyny and the subjugation of women in Muslim societies, including Bangladesh, Hashmi (liberal arts and science, Independent U., Bangladesh, India) describes the socio-political environment in Bangladesh, including popular Islam and misogyny, women as victims of the Salish, and the role of NGOs.
