Here are the beloved adventures of the mischievous hero Robin Hood and his brave and merry band of outlaws who forged a chivalrous code to protect the oppressed and despoil the oppressors.
A graphic novel adaptation of the original Robin Hood story, this book makes the exciting but difficult story accessible to struggling readers. With only 32 pages and only a handful of words on each page, the story relies almost completely on its comic book style illustrations to tell the story. The plot follows the original tale and includes six chapters with such titles as, "The Merry Men," "Maid Marian," and "The King Returns," but with such limited text, much of the intricacies of the original plot are necessarily left unexplored. The large framed cartoon illustrations will engage any reader who is drawn to the graphic novel style of book. The end of the book includes information about the original author and other references to his work. Information about the adapter, a glossary, and a listing of websites are also included. Other books in this series that may be of interest to reluctant readers include Moby Dick, Peter Pan, and White Fang. Reviewer: Sheryl O'Sullivan
