His publications include The Search for the Origins of Christian Worship (1992) and (co-editor) The Making of Jewish and Christian Liturgies (1991). Maxwell E. Johnson is Associate Professor of Liturgical Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He is the author of The Prayers of Sarapion of Thmuis (1995). L. Edward Phillips is Associate Professor of Historical Theology at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (Evanston, Ill.). He is the author of The Ritual Kiss in Early Christian Worship (1992) and In Spirit and Truth (2000).
