Book Synopsis

As the last season of Family Affair comes to a close, prime-time teen star Kaitlin Burke is no closer to deciding what she wants to do after the show ends. Struggling with career choices and bummed over a ridiculous catfight with her BFF, Liz, Kaitlin is so mixed up she even starts to semi-bond with her archnemesis, Sky. Worst of all, she falls in with two of Hollywood's biggest party fiends when one of them asks her, "Don't you ever do what you want to do?" Shopping sprees and the Tinseltown nightlife seems fun at first, but soon Kaitlin realizes that being a paparazzi princess just might be her downfall.

VOYA

Teenage television star Kaitlin Burke is coping with the culmination of her long-running, prime-time drama, Family Affair, and the challenge of finding another acting gig that will drive her career forward, all while trying to balance the regular pressures of teenage stardom in this fourth series installment. Kaitlin faces typical teenage turmoil: fallout with friends, conflict with parents, struggles in decision-making, all against a glam Hollywood backdrop. Calonita succeeds in maintaining Kaitlin as an authentic voice and character to whom readers will be able to relate. Kaitlin is drawn as a person who could easily be the next has-been star or Hollywood embarrassment and even makes some decisions that could lead down that path. But with the support of friends and family and some moxie of her own, she takes hold and addresses past wrongs. Under the wraps of a cover designed to look like the leopard print purse Kaitlin buys during one of her spending sprees lies a compelling book that captures a story to which readers will be drawn not only for its style but also for Kaitlin's substance. The book boasts wide appeal, smart writing, and an entertaining cast of characters for a quick, stylish read perfect for summer booktalking. Reviewer: Molly Krichten
